How to Remove Magnet Marks From a Stainless Refrigerator

Stainless steel refrigerators are becoming an increasingly popular appliance in modern kitchens. As with any refrigerator, magnets are bound to adorn them. When magnets are placed on a surface, dust, dirt and debris are sometimes trapped between or around the magnet and the refrigerator, leaving a build-up or surface wear on the fridge. While this is less noticeable on old-fashioned appliances, the natural polished and clean look of stainless steel surfaces show the imperfections and build-up more clearly. This is easily removed, however.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 rags (soft and non-abrasive)
  • Stainless steel cleaner or polisher
  • Latex gloves
  • Remove any magnets from the refrigerator. Even if only one magnet has left a mark, it is advisable to clean the whole surface for an even, polished look.

  • Use your non-abrasive rag to wipe down the surface of the refrigerator. Do not wet it, but simply remove any dust or dirt that may be on the steel.

  • Put on your latex gloves. This will protect your skin from prolonged exposure to cleaning chemicals, as well as simply keeping them dry.

  • Put 2 to 3 tbsp. of your stainless-steel polisher onto your second rag. Don't rub it around and spread it onto the rag, but simply leave it as a dab.

  • Press the dab of your cleaner or polisher onto the magnet marks that you are trying to eliminate. Once it's applied, gently rub the rag down the mark (or across, following the grain of the stainless steel). Don't scrub, but just apply it gently in this step.

  • Use a dry rag to gently rub the cleaner in a straight line with the grain of the steel. Keep rubbing it until it has seemingly been rubbed off.

  • Reapply the stainless steel cleaner to your first rag and then to the surface of your refrigerator.

  • Repeat steps 5 and 6, rubbing the polish on the stainless steel until any leftover residue and magnet marks are gone.
