How to Remove a Melted Magnet From Your Car

Magnets are a great way to express yourself without the permanence of a sticker. However sometimes a magnet can become too hot and melt to the car, making it no better than the adhesive alternative. If a magnet melts to your car, there's no need to worry. It is easy to get it off. With just a little time, patience and a small amount of effort, you can remove melted magnets in minimal time.

Things You'll Need

  • Hair dryer (battery operated)
  • Dish soap
  • Soft clean cloth
  • Use a soft, clean, damp cloth to gently clean the area of any loose dirt or debris that might scratch the car.

  • Use a hair dryer to heat the magnet. It might help to park the car near an electrical outlet or use a hair dryer that is battery operated. Do not use a heat gun as this will damage the car's finish.

  • Lift the edge of the magnet with a plastic edge gently as it heats and becomes more pliable.

  • Use soapy water to spray underneath the magnet and help to lubricate. Keep pulling on the magnet until it is free.

  • Wash the area with the warm, soapy water and a soft, clean cloth to remove any residual.
