The 2003 Dodge Ram was the second model year of the third-generation Ram pickup. This model was produced from 2002 to 2008. The 2003 Ram's taillights are situated in the rear corner of the truck's bed. They are attached to the truck by simple Phillips screws, so removing them is straightforward and takes less than 10 minutes.
Lower the tailgate to allow access to the inboard sides of the taillights. Put on your work gloves.
Inspect the inboard edge of the taillight you want to remove. You'll see two exposed Phillips screws. Turn them counterclockwise with the Phillips screwdriver to remove them.
Grasp the taillight and pull it out of the of truck's rear corner. On the back you'll see a plug.
Push the tab on the plug, and pull it out to unhook the taillight. Turn the taillight over. You'll see the bulb strip.
Remove the four Phillips screws from the back of the bulb strip, if you want to remove individual bulbs. The top bulb is the turn signal; the center bulb is the stop/brake light, and the bottom bulb is the backup light.
Grasp the bulb you want to remove gently, and then pull it out of the bulb strip.
Place the new bulb in the bulb strip slot and push it down gently to attach it. Place the bulb strip back onto the taillight. Tighten the four bulb strip screws. Plug the connection back into the taillight.
Insert the assembly back into its mount next to the tailgate. Insert and tighten the two Phillips screws to secure the taillight.
