Lexus Power Antenna Replacement Instructions

Replacing the Lexus power antenna is a job that takes you less than 30 minutes using just a few common shop tools. The antenna mast feeds from the top of the Lexus fender into the antenna motor with the mast cable at the end of the mast winding around the gears inside the antenna motor. Replacing the power antenna does not require replacing the entire antenna assembly. Use care when removing the nut on the antenna assembly to avoid scratching the Lexus fender.

Things You'll Need

  • Needle nose pliers
  • Socket wrench set
  • Screwdriver
  • Remove the antenna nut from the base of the antenna mast just above the Lexus fender with a pair of needle nose pliers. Insert the needle nose pliers into the two slots on the nut and slowly turn to remove it. Turn the stereo on to raise the antenna mast and pull the mast cable straight out of the antenna motor.

  • Turn the stereo off and compare the length of the old mast cable to the new antenna mast cable. If the old cable is shorter, you need to remove the remaining cable pieces from the antenna motor. If the cables are the same length, go to Step 5.

  • Unfasten the antenna mast motor from the inside of the vehicle frame in the trunk, loosening the bolts with a socket wrench.

  • Remove the screws that secure the cover plate to the side of the antenna motor with a screwdriver and take any broken pieces of antenna cable out of the motor gears. Reattach the cover plate to the antenna motor and fasten the motor to the vehicle frame inside the trunk.

  • Turn the stereo on and feed the new antenna mast cable down through the hole in the fender into the top of the antenna motor until the cable hits the antenna motor gears. Shut the stereo off and let the gears feed the antenna mast cable into the motor.

  • Secure the top of the antenna mast by attaching the mast nut to the antenna base on the Lexus fender.
