Where Is the Map Sensor on a Mazda 2.3L?

The MAP sensor (manifold absolute pressure) is a manifold pressure sensor that provides the engine ECU with air data allowing it to adjust fuel trim based on real-time data. If this sensor fouls due to contaminants, or malfunctions, the engine will no longer receive data, and will run poorly, and exhibit poor fuel economy.

Location

  • The MAP sensor is located in the 4th runner of the intake manifold on Mazda's 2.3 liter engine. The number four runner is the last runner toward the driver's side. It is located at the bottom of the manifold, and held in place with a single 10 millimeter bolt.

Cleaning

  • Cleaning the sensor and the connector may restore MAP sensor function. Use electronics cleaner on the sensor, then clean the connection pins in the plug pins.

Replacement

  • Mazda has released a technical service bulletin (TSB) for engine error code P0106, which is a MAP sensor malfunction. This is due to corrosion on the sensor chip located in the MAP sensor, which causes a short circuit. Mazda specifies replacement of the MAP sensor with a revised unit in these cases.
