How to Flush a Hydraulic System Cub Cadet

A Cub Cadet has been a leader in mid-size tractors for decades. The Cub Cadet comes as a riding lawn mower, utility vehicle, snow blower and tractor. They have a reputation of working hard and having a higher performance rating than the competitors. The hydraulic transmission burns oil at a high temperature, causing contaminants and water to clog the system; flushing fluids is preventive, but to clean a hydraulic system, you must do a complete flush.

Things You'll Need

  • Drain pan
  • Ratchet set
  • Hydraulic fluid
  • Air compressor
  • Filter
  • Drain the fluid completely, from the Cub Cadet. Use a ratchet to remove the bolt holding the fluid pan on. Draining the fluid will remove most of the contaminants in the system. Do not change the filter.

  • Fill the hydraulics with more fluid, only to the minimum level, after screwing the bolt in place. It is important that the fluid have room to swirl around in the system, at varying temperatures. As the fluid circulates stuck-on particles will come loose and will flush away with the fluid.

  • Flush the hydraulics a minimum of five times, to completely remove all contaminants and particles in the system. Turn the Cub Cadet on and let the engine begin to heat up -- to flush the system completely.

  • Unscrew the filter from the hydraulic system and drain the fluid completely. Let the fluid drain for at least 10 minutes. This allows the oil to drain completely from the hydraulics.

  • Insert an air hose from a compressor, and blow out the hydraulic system. Screw a new fluid filter onto the hydraulics, and fill the reservoir with fluid. Before operating the Cub Cadet check the fluid level to make sure it is at the full level.
