How to Install a Clutch Pedal Assembly

The clutch pedal assembly on your vehicle allows you to apply pressure to the clutch. That pressure is then converted to hydraulic pressure for shifting gears in the transmission. If the clutch pedal malfunctions, proper hydraulic pressure will result, and you will be unable to shift gears. Installing a new clutch pedal assembly is simple enough to perform in just a few minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Ratchet and socket
  • Push the front seat of your vehicle all the back. Access the floorboard, then set the new clutch pedal in its proper place on the floorboard. The pushrod that connects the clutch pedal to the clutch master cylinder will stick out just above where the new clutch pedal will be mounted.

  • Bolt the clutch pedal to its mount using a ratchet and socket.

  • Pinch the two bushing tabs on the end of the pushrod together with your fingers, then slide the end of the pushrod onto the top of the clutch pedal to complete the installation.
