How to Fix a Mazda MPV PCV Housing Oil Leak

Fix a positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) housing oil leak on a Mazda MPV to improve engine performance and prevent pollution from entering the atmosphere from the vehicle. The PCV valve opens and closes slightly to control engine emissions. Specifically the valve responds to engine speed by recirculating different amounts of fumes back into the engine. The fumes result from the combustion of fuel in the engine itself. A leak on the housing, or lower part of plug that fits into the engine block, requires a new valve installation. Do the job yourself to save money.

Things You'll Need

  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Replacement PCV valve
  • Open the hood of the Mazda MPV. The PCV vale is located on the top, rear portion of the engine block.

  • Grab the back hose connected to the valve and remove it with a firm tug.

  • Place one prong of needle-nose pliers into the opening of the vale. Compress the pliers and then pull out the old valve.

  • Place the new PCV valve into the engine block and connect the hose. Push the hose on the vale as far as possible.
