The Jeep Wrangler was officially introduced in the 1987 model year, but had a striking resemblance to the Jeep CJs of the 1960s, '70s and early '80s. The 1992 Wrangler comes standard with a 2.5-liter, inline, four-cylinder engine. It produces 123 horsepower and 139 foot-pounds of torque. The standard transmission for the 1992 Wrangler is a five-speed manual. This transmission makes use of a hydraulic clutch, so any adjustments needed are typically air in the hydraulic system. The only way to rid the system of the air and bring the clutch pedal back to its proper position is to bleed the system.
Open the Jeep's hood and remove the lid from the clutch master cylinder, the small component next to the master cylinder. Fill the clutch master cylinder with DOT 3 brake fluid.
Raise the front of the Wrangler, using the floor jack. Support the SUV by placing the jack stands beneath the frame rails and lowering the vehicle until its weight is supported only by the jack stands.
Fill the clean container with approximately three inches of DOT 3 brake fluid.
Crawl beneath the Jeep and locate the clutch master bleeder valve, the small tube protruding near where the engine and transmission connect to each other. Place the 1/4-inch rubber hose on the end of the bleeder valve and place the other end of the hose into the container with the brake fluid. Make certain the hose end stays submerged throughout the entire bleeding process.
Loosen the bleeder screw by turning it counterclockwise with the line wrench.
Instruct your assistant to press the clutch pedal all the way until it stops and hold it in that position. Observe as bubbles come from the tube in the brake fluid.
Tighten the bleeder valve by turning it clockwise with a line wrench. Instruct your assistant to release the clutch pedal.
Repeat Steps 6 through 7 until no bubbles come from the hose in the brake fluid.
Raise the vehicle from the jack stands, using the floor jack. Pull the jack stands from under the Jeep and lower it to the ground.
Check the fluid in the clutch master cylinder, the proper level is between the "Max" and "Min" lines on the clutch master cylinder. Add fluid as needed until the proper level is reached.
