Where Is the Transmission Dipstick on a 2003 Volvo XC?

Maintaining a proper transmission fluid level in your vehicle is important. Without the proper fluid filled to the appropriate level, the transmission is vulnerable to excessive wear. To check the transmission fluid in a Volvo, you must first locate the transmission dipstick, which is notoriously difficult to find. Read on for tips on how to find the dipstick.

Description

  • The transmission dipstick in a 2003 Volvo XC70 or XC90 is not a normal dipstick that extends up a tube from the transmission. It is very short and protrudes only about two inches from the transmission. It is round, and yellow in color.

Location

  • The transmission dipstick on a 2003 Volvo XC series car is on top of the transmission. It is concealed by the air intake, multiple hoses and parts of the wiring harness.

Removal

  • To remove the dipstick, unfasten the metal clip that secures it in place. You should be able to work your hand in far enough past the air filter, hoses, and wires to push the metal retaining clip off the back of the dipstick. The dipstick will then pull out.
