The Location of the Venture EGR Valve

The EGR valve is part of the exhaust gas recirculation system in a Chevrolet Venture. This system reduces the levels of nitrous oxide (NOx) gases in the vehicle exhaust that result from high engine temperatures.

Finding the EGR Valve

  • The EGR valve is located at the rear end of the upper intake manifold on the driver's side of the engine. The upper intake manifold is the aluminum top surface of the engine visible when you open the engine hood.

EGR Function

  • The EGR works by recirculating vehicle exhaust in the intake manifold, lowering the combustion temperature and production of nitrous oxide gases. The EGR system includes the EGR valve and a powertrain control module (PCM).

Checking the EGR

  • Check the EGR by disconnecting its electrical connector at the valve. Use the voltmeter to test terminal 2 and 4 for voltage. Both should show about 5 volts on the meter when the ignition is turned on. Use an ohm meter to test terminals 2 and 4 across 1 and 5. If either circuit is open the EGR valve must be replaced.
