How to Adjust the Headlights on an RV

The headlights on your RV must be aligned correctly so you have optimal light to see at night while driving. RV headlights can become misaligned every time you hit a bump or the front bumper is jarred. You can adjust the headlights on your RV yourself with a few tools and about an hour's worth of time.

Things You'll Need

  • Masking tape
  • Blank wall
  • Level floor
  • Tape measure
  • Screwdriver
  • Tape a 4-foot line on a level floor 25 feet away from a blank wall. Position your RV as close to the tape line as you can with the headlights pointing directly at the wall.

  • Rock the RV from side-to-side three times and let the suspension stabilize. Push down on the front bumper and release it three times to move and stabilize the front suspension.

  • Measure the distance between the two headlights from center to center. Mark this measurement on the wall in masking tape.

  • Turn your headlights to the "On" position and select the low beam setting.

  • Rotate the headlight vertical adjustment screw behind the casing of each headlight with a screwdriver until the headlights align with the headlight measurements you marked on the wall.
