The Ford Edge was introduced in the 2006 model-year. It featured a factory-installed cabin air filter behind the glove box, but by 2008, the filter was optional. While there was still a place in the vehicle to install one, some models did not come with them. Cabin air filters need to be replaced about every 12,000 to 15,000 miles in order to prevent musty smells from entering the passenger compartment and optimize the HVAC airflow entering the cab. In addition, they filter out pollen, harmful emissions and other contaminants from the cabin of the vehicle.
Open the passenger's side door then the glove compartment.
Remove the contents from the glove compartment.
Disconnect the string-hold from the right side of the glove compartment by unhooking the loop on the end of it from the plastic tab on the glove compartment.
Reach up to the top rear sides of the glove compartment and gently push in on its sides to release the upper rear stops from their rails.
Allow the glove compartment to slowly pivot down towards the floorboard. This will reveal the cabin air filter access door behind the glove compartment.
Press in on the lock of the release tab for the cabin air filter access door on the right side and pull open the access door.
Slide the cabin air filter out of its compartment and wipe out any dust or debris inside the compartment with a shop rag.
Install the replacement cabin air filter and reverse the above steps to complete the task.
