Ford F350 Spare Tire Mount Instructions

Some truck owners require a heavier duty vehicle to haul large loads or to tow heavy trailers. That is where the F350 comes into play. Although part of Ford Motor Co.'s popular F-Series trucks, the F350 shares almost no body or mechanical parts with Ford's lighter duty truck, the F150. The F350 features a one-ton capacity with heavier springs than the three-quarter ton F250. To save precious space in the cargo bed, the F350's spare tire is mounted under the cargo bed.

Things You'll Need

  • Spare tire key (placed at the factory in the glove box)
  • Spare tire jack extensions
  • Spare tire jack handle
  • Remove the spare tire key from the glove compartment. Open the hood and remove the wing nut from the spare tire jack extensions and jack handle on the radiator cross member. Lift the tools straight up and remove them from the engine compartment.

  • Push the two halves of the jacks extensions together until they are fully seated and snap together. Push the spare tire key onto the slotted end of the assembled jack extension until it is fully seated.

  • Locate the hole in the rear bumper near the driver's side of the license plate mounting. Insert the jack extensions, key-end first, into the hole until it engages with the tire lifting mechanism.

  • Push the jack handle over the protruding end of the jack extension. Rotate the jack handle in a counterclockwise direction to lower the spare tire cable to the ground.

  • Push the spare tire under the rear of the truck. Tilt the tire retainer at the base of the spare tire cable and slide it into the hole at the center wheel of the spare tire.

  • Rotate the jack handle in a clockwise direction to lift the tire. Stop when the spare tire makes contact with the under side of the truck cargo box. Remove the jack handle and extensions from the hole in the rear bumper.

  • Stow the spare tire key back in the glove box. Stow the jack extensions and jack handle under the hood and tighten the wing nut. Close the hood.
