How to Disable a 1997 Accord Alarm

Car alarms can be your best friend when they're working properly but can be a nightmare when they go off inadvertently. The problem can be made even worse if you can't shut off your alarm. The 1997 Honda Accord, like most cars, has an easy fix to this problem: just disconnect the car battery. This will shut off power to the alarm and cause it to reset.

Things You'll Need

  • Gloves
  • Wrench
  • Turn off all power to your car. You will be working under the hood of your Accord. As such, you want everything to be off.

  • Use a wrench to disconnect the wire attached to the negative terminal of the battery. This will turn off all the power to your car and shut off the alarm.

  • Fasten the terminal to the battery after one minute. You'll have to wait this amount of time to allow the alarm to reset.

  • Repeat Steps 1 through 3 if the alarm stays on. This time, disconnect the battery for several minutes to ensure the alarm has enough time to reset. Most of the time, though, the alarm should reset after just one minute.
