The Sable is a mid-sized sedan or station wagon offered by the Mercury Division of the Ford Motor Company. Sharing the same platform as the Ford Taurus, the Sable came standard with a transverse-mounted V-6 engine and an automatic transmission. As of 2010, the Taurus is still being manufactured, but the Sable was discontinued after the 2009 model year. Sables came standard with high-impact plastic headlight assemblies that were blended in aerodynamically with the surrounding bodywork. A Sable headlight assembly can be removed for replacement, repair or bulb replacement in just a few minutes.
Shut off the headlight switch, and open the hood.
Locate the retaining bolt on top of the headlight assembly that you wish to remove. Remove the bolt with a socket and ratchet wrench.
Locate the two retaining tabs at the rear of the headlight assembly.
Pry up the tabs with your fingers. Pull the headlight forward and out of its mounting bracket.
Rotate the circular dust shield on the rear of the headlight assembly in a counterclockwise direction and remove it. Pull the electrical connector -- revealed after removing the shield -- straight out of the back of the headlight bulb on the rear of the headlight assembly.
Remove the headlight assembly from the vehicle.
