How to Activate Sirius in a Used Car

Sirius XM Radio is satellite-based radio that offers over 100 commercial-free channels thoughout the country. Sirius comes as a factory option in many vehicles. If you have purchased a used car and the stereo system offers Sirius, you can set it up by calling the company. You need to know what information to have on hand and where to call.

Things You'll Need

  • Cell phone
  • Have your ESN (electronic serial number) ready for your activation phone call. The number is found on various stations in the radio display, depending on the car you have. The Sirius website states that the User's Manual explains where to locate the number, but if you cannot find it, a Sirius representative can help.

  • Power on your radio. Turn to Channel 184 to prepare for the activation. If you need help finding your ESN code, you do not have to turn to Channel 184 yet, but have your vehicle on so that you can locate it with the representative's help.

  • Call 888-539-7474, an accurate activation phone number as of late September 2010. Follow the prompts to reach an activation representative. Give her your ESN information or follow the instructions to locate it --- the representative will talk you through the process and set up your Sirius radio.
