How to Change 2005 Honda Odyssey Transmisssion Filter

The transmission filter on the 2005 Honda Odyssey is located within the transmission; at its location, on the outside of the transmission, will be a square metal cover plate secured by eight bolts to the bottom of the transmission. Every time that you change the transmission fluid, the filter should also be changed. As long as you have a few basic tools, you will be able to change the transmission filter in little time and in your own driveway.

Things You'll Need

  • Jack
  • Jack stand
  • Drain pan
  • Ratchet
  • 7/16-inch socket
  • Replacement filter
  • Raise the right front side of the Honda Odyssey, using the jack, and lower the front right side onto a jack stand. Place the drain pan under the metal plate located on the bottom of the transmission. Remove the bolts from the plate using the ratchet and socket and drain the fluid from the transmission into the pan.

  • Pull the plate off the bottom of the transmission and look inside the transmission, on its upper wall, to locate the filter. Reach into the transmission, turn the filter counterclockwise and pull it off the pump.

  • Place the new filter onto the pump and turn the filter clockwise until it is snug. Replace the plate to the bottom of the transmission and replace the bolts to the plate. Tighten the bolts, using the ratchet and the socket, so that they are hand-tight. Raise the front-right side, using the jack, then remove the jack stand. Lower the Odyssey to the ground.
