How Do I Lube the Chassis on My Buick Sedan?

The Buick Motor Company, incorporated in 1903, remained one of the most popular automobile manufacturers throughout the first half of the 20th century. Buick briefly stopped production of its automotive lineup between 1942 and 1946, focusing instead on aviation engines. Today, Buick remains a popular choice with the automobile consumer. Buick recommends lubricating the chassis every 7,500 miles. Lubrication of the chassis requires basic automotive repair knowledge.

Things You'll Need

  • Jack
  • Jack stands (2)
  • Shop rag
  • Grease gun
  • Raise the front of the vehicle using a jack. Place two jack stands, one behind each front wheel assembly, under the A-arm. Lower the vehicle onto the jack stands then remove the jack.

  • Turn the steering wheel all the way to the left. This will expose all of the front suspension grease nipples on the driver's side of the vehicle.

  • Locate the five grease nipples on the driver's side of the vehicle. Grease nipples are installed on the tie-rod ends, ball joints, steering linkage and steering idler arm.

  • Wipe off all of the dirt and grease from each grease nipple with a shop rag.

  • Push the quick connection on the end of a grease gun onto the grease nipple until it snaps. Squeeze and release the trigger on the grease gun until a slight amount of grease purges out of the component being greased. Repeat this procedure on the four other grease nipples.

  • Turn the steering wheel all the way to the right. This will expose all of the front suspension grease nipples on the passenger's side of the vehicle. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 to apply grease to the components on the passenger's side of the vehicle.

  • Locate the U-joint on the driveshaft, near the rear end of the vehicle. Push the quick connection on the end of the grease gun onto the grease nipple on the U-joint. Lubricate the U-joint until grease purges out it. This step does not apply to front wheel drive cars.

  • Raise the front of the vehicle off the jack stands with the jack. Remove the jack stands. Lower the front of the vehicle to the ground with the jack then remove it.
