The Toyota Sienna is a front wheel drive mini van. The transmission fluid in the Sienna should be changed periodically to help ensure that the transmission does not suffer from wear and tear and continues to function properly. The engine in this vehicle is installed sideways, so the transmission can be found on the left side of the engine compartment. On the bottom side of the transmission, a square metal plate must be removed to first drain the transmission fluid.
Lift the front end of the Sienna using a car jack. Support the front end with jack stands. Position the drain pan under the square plate on the bottom of the transmission.
Loosen the bolts around the edge of the drain plate using a ratchet and socket until fluid starts to drain from the transmission. Allow all of the transmission fluid to drain into the pan, then tighten the bolts on the drain plate until they are snug.
Remove the drain pan from under the Sienna. Use the jack to raise the front end and remove the jack stands from under the Sienna, then lower the front end to the ground.
Open the hood and remove the red handle dipstick from the transmission. Insert a funnel into the tube that holds the dipstick, then pour fresh transmission fluid into the transmission. Remove the funnel and replace the dipstick to the transmission. Close the hood.
