How to Remove a 2000 Grand Am Front Bumper Cover

The front bumper cover on the 2000 Pontiac Grand Am is the plastic bumper on the front of the car. The bumper cover is connected to the frame of the Grand Am by metal screws and retaining pins inside the wheel well and on the right and left side of the radiator. On the right and left sides behind the edge of the front bumper are metal retaining rods, which are connected to the frame and the front bumper and which will also need to be removed.

Things You'll Need

  • Tire iron
  • Jack
  • 2 jack stands
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Loosen the lug nuts on both of the front tires using a tire iron. Raise the front end of the Grand Am with a jack and rest the front end on two jack stands. Remove the lug nuts from the tires with the tire iron and pull the tires off of the frame.

  • Remove the screws inside the front right and left wheel well using the Phillips screwdriver. Pull the front right and left wheel wells off of the frame.

  • Remove the securing screws holding the front bumper cover to the frame in front of the quarter panels on the front right and left sides of the Grand Am. Remove the securing screws from the right and left sides of the radiator using the screwdriver.

  • Remove the screw from the ends of the retaining rod that is connected to the front bumper cover. Pull the front bumper cover away from the frame at the point where the retaining pins are securing the cover to the frame.

  • Pull the front bumper cover off of the frame and store it in a clean, dry place.
