When the door to a Ford truck becomes difficult to open and close, it is time to replace the hinge pin. Hinge pins can become bent as a result of rough use, or they can become corroded from road salt and dirt. Once the door is removed from the vehicle, the process to change hinge pins on a Ford truck is straightforward. Rather then try to grind the head of the pin off to remove it, cut it in half. This will make the job go much faster.
Attach a metal cutting blade to the angle grinder, according to the instructions included with your grinder.
Cut through the center of the hinge pin with the angle grinder. Make sure to wear safety glasses and work gloves while using the grinder.
Pull each half of the pin out of the hinge. Use a hammer to drive the pin halves out if they do not come easily, or place the head of the pin in the claw of the hammer and pry it free.
Drop the new pin into the hinge from the top.
Press down on the top of the pin with one hand, while pushing the pin bushing onto the pin end from the bottom.
Attach a C-clamp so the clamp is pressing on both the head of the pin and the bottom of the bushing. Tighten the C-clamp until the bushing is seated on the pin and the clamp will not tighten further.
