How to Change a Volvo S60 Cabin Filter

The S60 is a small sedan, first introduced by Volvo in 2000. The S60 comes standard with a 5-cylinder, transversely mounted engine driving the front wheels. The car is available with a manual or automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The S60 is equipped with a cabin air filter, which is a crucial part of the car's air conditioning and ventilation system. The system filters impurities from the air that enters the passenger compartment. Changing the cabin air filter in your S60 will take just a few minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Torx screwdriver
  • Replacement cabin air filter element
  • Open the front passenger door. Move the seat all the way to the rear and remove the floor mat.

  • Locate the passenger side plastic trim panel in-between the center console and the kick panel, below the glove box door. Remove the two holding screws in the panel with a Torx screwdriver, turning in a counter-clockwise direction. Place the screws aside. Pull the panel straight down and away from the dashboard, then remove it from the vehicle.

  • Locate the cabin air filter housing, which should be visible after removing the trim panel. Remove the cover from the housing by backing out the four holding screws with a Torx screwdriver. Remove the cover and place it aside, along with the screws.

  • Pull the cabin air filter element from the housing and discard it. Push a new filter into the housing until it is fully seated.

  • Replace the cabin air filter housing cover and tighten the four Torx screws in a clockwise direction.

  • Push the plastic trim panel back into position under the dashboard and tighten the two original screws with a Torx screwdriver, turning in a clockwise direction.

  • Replace the passenger floor mat and restore the seat to its original position.
