How to Install a Headlight Bulb on a 2005 Chevy Aveo

Driving with a burnt-out headlight in your 2005 Chevrolet Aveo reduces your visibility at night and makes it more difficult for others to see your car on the road. You should keep your headlights working properly at all times. You do not need to visit a service center to repair your headlight bulbs. The 2005 Aveo uses a 9003 headlight bulb available at auto parts retailers. Change the bulbs at home to save some money.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket and ratchet set
  • Raise the hood of your Aveo. Remove the two mounting bolts from the top of the headlight assembly using a socket and ratchet.

  • Press the retaining clip on the electrical connection and pull the connectors apart. Pull the headlight assembly forward and out of the car.

  • Twist the protective cap off the rear of the bulb assembly. Disconnect the wiring harness from the bulb by pulling it straight back. Pull the retaining wire off the rear of the bulb and pull the bulb out of the headlight assembly.

  • Insert the new bulb into the assembly and replace the retaining wire around the base of the bulb. Press the wiring harness into the connector on the bulb.

  • Twist the protective cap back into place until it is secure. Replace the headlight assembly and push the electrical connectors together until they click. Replace the mounting bolts on the headlight assembly and tighten them with a socket and ratchet.

  • Repeat the process on the second headlight if needed. Close the hood and test the bulbs to ensure they are functioning.
