How to Replace a Ford Super Duty Tail Light

The taillights on your Ford Super Duty truck are easily accessible and can be changed at home if one burns out. You should monitor the condition of all of the lights on your truck regularly and keep them in full working order. The Ford Super Duty requires bulb number 3157 for the taillight bulb sockets. Buy replacement bulbs for your Super Duty at an auto parts store or Ford dealership.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket and ratchet set
  • Lower the tailgate of your Super Duty truck to access the inside of the taillight assembly. Remove the two bolts from the inside edge of the taillight assembly using a socket and ratchet.

  • Press the two retaining tabs on the inside edge of the taillight assembly and pull it straight back away from the truck.

  • Turn the bulb socket counterclockwise to remove it from the taillight assembly. Pull the bulb straight out of the socket.

  • Insert the new bulb into the socket. Insert the bulb socket into the taillight assembly and rotate it clockwise until it locks into place.

  • Push the taillight assembly into position until it clicks. Replace the retaining bolts and tighten them with a socket and ratchet.

  • Repeat the process on the opposite side if needed. Close the tailgate and test the function of the new taillight bulbs.
