How to Replace the Gas Filler Hose on a 1994 Ford Ranger

The gas filler hose on a 1994 Ford Ranger is the rubber hose that runs from the gas door to the gas tank. Replacing the hose is fairly simple as it is clamped to the fuel door and the fuel tank. There is a supporting bracket that needs to be loosened. The truck sits high enough off the ground so that you do not need to raise the truck for easier access. The hose itself should take only a few minutes to replace and your fuel economy will improve greatly.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Socket wrench
  • Socket set
  • New fuel filler hose

Removing the Fuel Tank Filler Hose

  • Open the gas door to access the gas cap. Unscrew the gas cap from the fuel nozzle.

  • Unscrew the three bolts holding the filler neck in place with a Phillips head screwdriver. This will loosen the filler hose from the gas door.

  • Locate the bracket holding the filler hose to the frame. This will be under the gas door along the frame rail.

  • Unbolt the bracket with a socket wrench. Bend the bracket slightly until the hose slides out from the bracket.

  • Unscrew the hose clamp holding the end of the filler hose to the fuel tank. Use a flat head screwdriver to loosen the clamp. The hose will slide off the piping of the fuel tank.

Installing the Fuel Tank Filler Hose

  • Clamp the end of the new filler hose to the gas tank. Use a new hose clamp to ensure the hose is secure on the pipe.

  • Tighten the bracket to the hose to secure it against the frame. Tighten the bracket with a socket wrench.

  • Push the end of the hose through the gas door. Secure it in place by tightening the three screws with a Phillips head screwdriver.

  • Test the hose by pouring gasoline into the hose. Crawl under the truck to observe for leaks.
