How to Replace Toyota Corolla Power Steering Hose

Without a properly working power steering pump hose to help distribute the power steering fluid, the power steering will not work on your Toyota Corolla, making it difficult to steer. Just about anybody can replace the power steering pump hose with a couple of household tools. This is not a difficult job to perform on your Toyota Corolla, and it will help to ensure your comfort and safety while you are driving.

Things You'll Need

  • Cup
  • Pliers
  • New power steering pump hose
  • Fresh power steering fluid
  • Open the hood and locate the power steering pump that is mounted on the rear engine wall.

  • Place the cup under the power steering pump to catch the fluid that you are going to drain. Loosen the nut that is connecting the hose to the bottom of the power steering pump with the pliers. Pull the hose away from the pump and let the fluid drain into the cup.

  • Disconnect the power steering hose from the valve. The opposite end of the hose will be connected to the valve. Use the pliers to loosen the securing nut and remove the hose.

  • Place the new power steering hose into the valve and secure the hose into the valve using the pliers and securing nut. Connect the new power steering hose to the power steering pump using the securing nut and the pliers to tighten the nut.

  • Fill the power steering pump with fresh power steering fluid according to the directions on the power steering fluid bottle.
