How to Change the Cab Microfilter in a Nissan Xterra

The Nissan Xterra is equipped with two cab microfilters. The microfilters help clean the air inside your vehicle. Nissan recommends changing both filters at least once every 25,000 miles. The filters are relatively easy to access; changing them only takes a few minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Two Nissan replacement microfilters
  • Socket wrench or pliers
  • Visit your local Nissan dealer and buy two replacement microfilters. The part number is 999M1-VP051. You can also check your local auto parts store to determine if an aftermarket equivalent is available.

  • Open the lower glove box door and remove any contents. Push together the sides of the glove box to unhinge it. Let the door lower completely.

  • Examine the area behind the glove box and look for the filter cover bolt. Remove the bolt and set the cover aside.

  • Pull the tab to remove the old filters. Insert the new microfilters with the arrow facing down and toward the rear of the vehicle. Snap the cover back on, and replace the bolt.

  • Lift the glove box door and press the sides together to reattach it.
