How to Replace Fuses in a Ford Taurus

Fuses are a safety net in your Ford Taurus. A fuse prevents an electrical component from being damaged by restricting the electrical current allowed to pass through the fuse to the component. If the electrical current is too high, the fuse pops and no electricity reaches the component. This can be annoying, but replacing a fuse is relatively inexpensive compared to replacing any of the electrical devices or components in your Taurus. When a fuse does pop, you'll have to replace it.

Things You'll Need

  • New fuses
  • Locate the fuse box in your Ford Taurus. It is located on the driver's side, underneath the steering wheel.

  • Pull the panel off the fuse box and locate the fuse you need to replace.

  • Locate the fuse puller that is included on the fuse panel. It will look like a miniature tong with two arms for you to clip over the head of the fuse.

  • Clip the arms of the fuse puller over the fuse you want to pull and make sure you have a good grip on the fuse puller.

  • Pull the fuse straight out and insert a new fuse. You don' t need to use the fuse puller to install the new fuse. It will slide right into the slot from where you pulled the old one.

  • Replace the fuse puller and fuse box cover.
