How to Remove a Rear View Mirror on a Ford Truck

Ford truck enthusiasts would agree that some of the seemingly smaller tinkering around can take a long while, if you haven't figured out the right way to do it. A lot of people struggle to remove the rear view mirror. The Ford Service CD usually has a description of how to remove the mirror. Ford has a special tool for removing the mirror. It is supplied to the dealers and usually not available otherwise. But if you decide to replace the mirror on your own, care has to be taken so that the mirror or the bracket doesn't break during the procedure.

Things You'll Need

  • Hammer Sharp wood chisel Small flat screwdriver
  • Remove the electrical connector on the top side of the mirror (if the truck is new enough to have power to it). The bottom of the mirror bracket has a slot with a retaining clip inside it. This clip has to be released for the mirror to come off.

  • Use a small flat screwdriver and twist the clip to loosen it. Trying to pry too hard can damage the assembly piece.

  • Place a wood chisel against the mirror bracket and tap it lightly to break the mirror free from the original glue. Make sure that it doesn't fall on to the ground.
