How to Install an Air Filter on a Cavalier

There is no point in paying a mechanic to install an air filter in your Cavalier. With a screwdriver, you can do this yourself in less than five minutes and save money on labor charges. The replacement filters are quite affordable and, considering the benefits of a clean engine air filter allowing quality combustible air to your engine and optimizing fuel efficiency, you should replace it a couple times a year.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Release the hood latch with engine in the off position.

  • Prop the hood onto the hood prop rod located on the fender rail.

  • Locate the air box. It is directly behind the battery on the driver's side.

  • Loosen the four screws in the air box lid using the screwdriver. The screws are fixed into the lid and do not come out.

  • Lift the air box lid and remove the old filter. Discard it.

  • Insert the new filter.

  • Replace the lid and re-tighten the screws.

  • Remove the screwdriver and close the hood.
