Working on the clutch of the Pontiac Grand Am is somewhat limited due to the fact that the clutch is hydraulic, and not many adjustments are possible. However, there are a few things you can do to help your clutch perform as it should, like checking the fluid in the reservoir and bleeding the system.
Check the level of the clutch fluid in the reservoir in the Pontiac Grand Am. You will find the reservoir located in the rear left of the engine bay. If the level is too low, the clutch won't be able to maintain the level of pressure it needs to function properly. Fill the reservoir to the recommended level, and then pump the clutch pedal a few times to restore the pressure in the system. If, however, the level in the reservoir doesn't stay the same after you filled it, you may have a leak in the reservoir, or somewhere else in the system. Repair or replace any leaking parts.
Bleed the system next if filling the reservoir of your Pontiac Grand Am doesn't change the clutch's performance. Look for the bleeder valve on the slave cylinder (near the transmission), and attach one end of a rubber hose to it. Put the other end of the hose in a clear container. Open the bleeder valve and the lid of the master cylinder, close the mater cylinder and the valve when you don't see any more air bubbles in the container.
Inspect the components of the Pontiac Grand Am's clutch: the flywheel, the disc and the pressure plate. If any of these are worn, they need to be replaced.
