What Engine Oil Weight Does a '97 Ford F150 Use?

In 1997, Ford took a huge leap forward in pickup truck design, as it completely overhauled its best-selling F-150, giving it a rounded look that was unheard of in the segment. Along with this redesign came a trio of new powerplants. The base engine was a 4.2-liter V-6 with 210 horsepower, then came a 4.6-liter V-8 with the same 210 horsepower, and finally a 5.4-liter V-8 with 235 horsepower. To keep these engines properly lubricated and fuel economy at its highest, Ford recommended specific oil weight.

Engine Oil Specifications

  • All three available engines in the 1997 Ford F-150 require Super Premium Motorcraft Motor Oil, or an equivalent oil that meets or exceeds Ford specification WSS-M2C153–F, in a 5W-30 viscosity. All three engines have a total oil capacity of 6 quarts, including the oil filter.
