How to Check the Transmission Oil in a 2005 Suzuki Reno

The 2005 Reno from Suzuki came equipped with a 2.0-liter engine in the S, LX and EX models. To bolt up to that, a five-speed manual transmission came standard on the S and LX models with an option for a four-speed automatic transmission. The four-speed automatic transmission came standard on the EX.

Checking the Transmisison Fluid

  • Whether it is an automatic or manual transmission, checking the transmission fluid is the same procedure. On the transaxle case, near the exhaust pipe and under the driveshaft, there is a filler plug. On the manual transmission, it is the upper of the two plugs on the case. Remove the plug and stick your finger in the hole. You should feel fluid at the bottom edge of the hole. If you don't, the fluid is low. For the automatic transmission, use an oil labeled ESSO LT 71141 or TOTAL ATF H50235. In the manual transmission, use SAE 80W. If you live in a very cold climate, use SAE 75W90.
