Mercedes Mechanical Problems

Mercedes-Benz automobiles, manufactured by Mercedes-Benz of Germany, are renowned for luxury, quality and durability. However, a Mercedes still can suffer from some common mechanical problems, which often can be resolved via some basic troubleshooting techniques.

Toe-In-Toe-Out Problems

  • The toe-in-toe-out in a Mercedes refers to the measurement by which the front wheels are misaligned, or not parallel to each other. Improper toe adjustment can result in steering instability and excess tire wear. Take the Mercedes to a certified mechanic and request a wheel alignment to resolve the toe problem.

Engine Runs Rough

  • A Mercedes that runs rough and sputters during acceleration can be due to a bad fuel pressure regulator. A failing fuel regulator may not regulate properly the pressure of the fuel that reaches the injectors, resulting in poor engine performance. Perform a fuel volume test on the regulator using a fuel flow gauge. Lack of proper pressure, as specified by your Mercedes owner manual, indicates a bad pressure regulator, which should be replaced.

Dashboard Problems

  • A nonfunctioning or flickering digital dashboard display on a Mercedes can result from a bad light-emitting diode (LED ) ribbon cable, which connects to the printed circuit board (PCB). Remove the display instrument cluster and replace the ribbon cable to restore proper dashboard function.
