Problem With an Eclipse Sunroof

Introduced in 1989, the Mitsubishi Eclipse is a coupe manufactured by Mitsubishi Motors. Owners commonly report sunroof-related problems with the Mitsubishi Eclipse, but these issues can often be resolved with a little time and detective work.

Bad Guides

  • The guides, which allow back and forth movement of the sunroof, can fail, causing the sunroof not to open without manual adjustment. Replacing the guides offers a temporary solution, but the problem may return.

Bad Micro-Switch

  • A sticking Mitsubishi Eclipse sunroof can result from a failed micro-switch, which opens or closes a pair of contacts to allow the passage of an electrical circuit. Remove the sunroof hatch and depress the flap covering the switch. If you don’t hear a clicking noise, the micro-switch has failed and requires replacement.

Motor Slip Clutch

  • The slip clutch on the Eclipse sunroof, a friction clutch designed to slip if an obstruction interferes with motor operation, may misalign and require adjustment. Loosen the adjusting nut on the slip clutch to lower or raise the torque as indicated by the manufacturer’s specifications based on the year of your Eclipse.
