What Is the Internal Governor or Windshield Wiper Control Module?

The internal governor, or windshield wiper control module, is a simple computer system connected to the bar on the steering wheel that causes the windshield wipers to function.

Description

  • The windshield wiper control module has two connectors. One is connected to the wiper switch on the steering wheel, while the other connects to the wiper motor. A ground wire connects the side of the module to the vehicle's engine.

Location

  • The windshield wiper control module is mounted under the driver's side dashboard. It is a black module with two white, five-pin connectors plugged into it, as well as a ground wire screwed onto the side. Generally, the windshield wiper control module is secured by two screws.

Replacement

  • To replace a windshield wiper control module, remove the old module by loosening the screws and installing the new one in the same manner. Do not forget to reconnect the ground wire.
