The Passenger Side Windows Won't Go Up on My Toyota Highlander

If the passenger side windows won't go up on your Toyota Highlander, that usually means that the motor or window regulator is bad. Power windows on any type of car can go bad with constant use and require repair and replacement. This is a long process that will take a lot of patience, but any car owner can complete it.

Things You'll Need

  • Putty knife
  • Pry bar
  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Window regulator
  • Window motor
  • Socket wrench
  • Pry up on the door handle cup with a putty knife. Snap loose the clip holding the handle in place and release the handle from the door panel. Remove the screw from under the handle cup with a Phillips head screwdriver. Remove the screw holding the door handle in place.

  • Pry off the trim cover with a pry bar. Remove the center pin holding the entire door panel in place. Pull it off carefully with a pry bar. Slide a putty knife between the door panel and the frame to snap the clips off and pull the door panel away from the door.

  • Remove the plastic covering over top of the window regulator and motor. Peel it off by hand. Locate the window motor and the regulator. Check to make sure they are properly connected and all the wires are in good shape. Unbolt the window motor with a socket wrench and replace the motor.

  • Bolt the new motor in place and test the window to see if it is working. If it still does not work. Remove and replace the window regulator. Test the window once again.

  • Reattach the door panel following the same steps that were followed to remove the panel, only in the opposite direction. Repeat the process for any other windows that will not go up. Test all windows after the panel is back on and everything is intact to make sure they are still working.
