A number of problems can cause your windshield washers not to work and each issue has its own solution. Windshield wipers are often overlooked as important, but when you think about it, a clean window gives you the best picture to gauge your decisions when driving. Having properly functioning wipers in a storm makes all the difference between seeing the road and having to pull over.
Check the wiper fuse. If your wipers do not turn on, it may just be a blown fuse. The fuse is designed to break when it overheats, interrupting the electrical current and eliminating the possibility of an electrical fire. Check your vehicle owner's manual for instructions on locating and pulling the fuses on your Nissan vehicle. Once the fuse is pulled, look at it to see if the tiny wire inside is broken. If so, replace the fuse with a new one.
Replace the wiper blades if they do not wick water off the windshield or the blades don't glide smoothly on the glass. Purchase replacement blades at any auto supply store. Pull the windshield wipers away from the windshield and pull the old blades off the rod. Slide the new wiper blades on the rod and lower the wiper arm back to the windshield.
Tighten the wiper arm nut if you turn on the wipers but only one arm moves. Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry off the plastic cap at the base of the wiper arm. This will expose a nut -- tighten the nut using a small adjustable wrench.
