My Remote Starter Won't Start in Cold Weather

Remote car starters are a useful innovation that allow you to start your car remotely from inside a house or building. This gives the car a chance to heat up without you ever having to start it manually. Especially useful in cold weather, a remote starter lets you go from a warm building to a warm car without having to endure much of the chilly outdoors. Unfortunately, some remote car starters actually have some minor issues starting in the cold weather.

  • Replace the battery to your starter. If the remote starter itself becomes too cold, its battery can freeze. Or, the battery may just run out of juice, though this would have nothing to do with the weather. Simply go to a dealer and purchase a new battery for the starter. This should remedy the problem.

  • Use the starter closer to the car. If the weather outside is snowy or rainy, it may interrupt the frequency of the starter which can prevent it from starting. Try getting closer to the car and trying out the starter. If this does not work, you may have a more serious problem with your car.

  • Check the battery to your car. More often than not, the car battery is the problem, not the starter. If the car does not manually turn over, it is almost certainly an issue with the car. In extreme cold weather, the battery of a car can freeze, preventing it from starting. You may have to jump start the car using another car.
