How to Replace the Center Console Compartment Box in the 2005 Toyota Camry

There are a number of reasons to replace the center console compartment box in your 2005 Toyota Camry. If you have scratched the outside plastic, cracked the box or plan to change the appearance of the interior, you can remove the console in under 15 minutes with a few turns of a wrench and screwdriver. You do not have to worry about exposing floor pan metal or wires, when removing the console, because it simply rests on the vehicle's carpet.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Socket wrench
  • Socket set
  • Socket extension
  • Move both front seats of your 2005 Toyota Camry, as far back as they will go, to reach the screws that connect the center console compartment box to the rest of the dashboard.

  • Remove the screws connecting the console box piece to the shifter section of the console with a Phillips head screwdriver. These screws are covered by small, circular pieces of plastic and are near the floor of the Camry. One screw is on each side of the console. Gently pry the plastic cap off and remove the screws.

  • Open the compartment box lid on the center console and clear out any items that block your view of the box's bottom. Once everything is clear, locate then remove the two bolts that hold the console to the floor of the car with a socket wrench.

  • Pull up and backward on the console gently to remove it. It may be easier to take the center console compartment box out of the car through the rear doors.
