2002 Audi A6 Won't Start

The Audi A6 is a luxury style sedan. In 2002, the A6 was offered with a 3-liter V6 engine and also with a 4.2-liter V8. Many 2002 A6s also have all-wheel drive. Unfortunately for Audi owners, Consumer Reports ranked the Audi A6 as one of the least reliable cars and Audis in general as unreliable. Any car can fail to start at any given time. There are a number of things you can do if your Audi A6 does not start.

  • Check to make sure you have gas in the tank. Even if your gas gauge says you have enough, add more to make sure. Your gas gauge could be broken. If you have no gas, your Audi won't start.

  • Turn on the ignition and see if the check engine light comes on. If it does, then your Audi A6's engine computer is getting power. If it doesn't, it could mean a problem with the computer or even something as simple as a broken wire.

  • Turn on the Audi's ignition and check to see if the windshield wipers are working. If the windshield wipers are slow, it could indicate that your battery is low. You can fix this by jumping the car and letting it run for a few hours.

  • Listen for a banging sound. If your Audi is making a banging sound, it could be a serious engine problem. If you hear a squealing or high-pitched sound, a belt could be loose. Take the car to a mechanic.
