Removing the grill from a Volkswagen Jetta is often a necessity when the grill is damaged to the point of requiring replacement, when you are upgrading to a chrome grill, or when you're working on engine parts behind the grill. All Volkswagen models have removable grills connected by plastic or metal connectors. They slide tightly into a frame on the front of the vehicle so as to stay in place while the car or truck is in motion.
Open the hood of the Jetta and prop it up with the hood rod. Use the flat head screwdriver to gently pry off the metal clip connectors attaching the bumper to the hood, by sliding the tip of the screwdriver under the clips top and pushing them away from the grill.
Use the metric wrench to loosen and remove the bolts keeping the grill connected to the Jetta body. Remove the two top bolts first, then the three at the bottom of the grill. Place the bolts in a safe place so they do not get misplaced.
Grab the grill with one hand on the very top, and one hand on the vertical spoke in the middle of the grill. Pull straight up until the grill rises three inches and then pull outward away from the Jetta. Set the grill down gently in a safe place so it does not get damaged.
