How to Reset the Brake Sensor on My Mini Cooper

Most models of the Mini Cooper are equipped with brake pad sensors that alert the driver when the brake pads need to be changed. The sensor is activated when most of the brake pad wears down. When a mechanic replaces the brake pads, he will usually reset the brake pad sensor. In some cases, the sensor needs to be manually reset so the warning light will go off and the system will be able to accurately monitor brake pad levels again.

  • Insert the key into the ignition.

  • Press the "Start" button. Wait for the brake sensor light to appear on the display and then disappear.

  • Press and hold the buttons on the left and right sides of the tachometer.

  • Release the button on the right after "VIN/Menu" appears on the display. Continue to hold down the left button.

  • Press and hold the right button.

  • Release both buttons after the brake pad symbol appears in the display.

  • Press and hold the on-board computer button repeatedly until "Reset" appears on the display. This button is located on the tip of the turn signal arm.

  • Press and hold the on-board computer button until the brake sensor light resets.
