Check Engine Light Causes for an Ml320

The M Class built by Mercedes Benz in 1997 (1998 model year) has been one of Mercedes' best-selling SUVs in the world. This midsized SUV offers many of the luxuries of a Mercedes car, but it offers a better range of view with the ability to sit up higher. The Ml320 has many advanced sensors that alert the driver of any issues. The check engine light indicates the possibility of a few problems common on the Ml320.

Fuel Filter

  • After-market fuel filters cause a difference in oil pressure that set off the check engine light. If you get your oil changed at a facility that is not a Mercedes dealership, this may happen regularly.

Ignition Coil Failure

  • When the ignition coil on the Ml320 fails, this causes the cylinder that the ignition coil fires to fail and turns the check engine light on. Recognize this by lower RPMs and a lack of power.

Fuel Injector

  • Failing fuel injectors are a common occurrence on the Ml320. The engine shakes when this happens, and it can be pretty violent depending on how fast you are going. Replace the fuel injector to fix this issue.
