How to Mount a Mini Cooper License Plate

Mini Coopers are adorable little cars made by MINI, which is now owned by BMW. There are several Cooper models from which to choose when you are deciding on a new vehicle. Pick from the Mini Cooper hard or soft top, Mini Cooper Clubman, Mini John Cooper Works and the new (as of 2010) Mini Cooper Countryman. Once you have your new car, even if it is just new to you, you will want to transfer your license from your old vehicle to the Mini. This shoud not take more than a few minutes.

Things You'll Need

  • Screwdriver
  • 4 machine screws
  • Purchase the needed hardware at a local home improvement store or hardware store. License plates don't normally come with hardware included. You will need machine screws with built-in washers.

  • Set the plate up to the license plate holder area of the car on the back of the car. There is a holder on the hatch door. The Clubman and Countryman have a different location than other Mini Coopers, on the vehicle. For them the license plate needs to be mounted on the back bumper, below the lift gate.

  • Insert a screw into one of the top holes of the plate and then into one of the car's plate holes. Drive the screw into the Cooper's hatch plate area or bumper until it is tight against the plate. Turn the screwdriver in a clockwise direction to tighten it.

  • Insert the other three screws through the plate holes and into the car holes one at a time. Tighten them down the same as the first screw.
