How to Recharge a K&N Air Filter

K&N manufactures high-performance air filters for all types of vehicles. K&N filters can be recharged or cleaned over the lifetime of the vehicle. You should use K&N brand recharger products, including K&N Air Filter Cleaner and K&N Air Filter Oil. The entire cleaning process should less than 20 minutes, but drying time may take a few hours.

Things You'll Need

  • K&N Air Filter Cleaner
  • K&N Air Filter Oil
  • Spray K&N air filter cleaner on both sides of the filter, until the filter is saturated. Let the cleaner dry for 10 minutes.

  • Rinse the air filter with a gentle stream from a hose. Move the hose up and down the pleats of the filter to rinse off all the cleaner.

  • Allow the filter to air-dry completely. Do not use anything that might make the filter dry faster, such as a fan.

  • Apply K&N Air Filter Oil to the dirty side of the filter only. Spray the oil along the top of each pleat or squeeze the oil along the top of each pleat, depending on which type of oil bottle you have.

  • Let the oil dry for 20 minutes. Once dry, look for any areas that are lighter in color than others, because those areas do not have as much oil as other areas. Reapply more oil to light colored areas and let the oil dry for 20 minutes. Reinstall the filter when finished.
