In 2007 Acura introduced a maintenance reminder program on the MDX. These newer MDXs informed the drivers of what maintenance the vehicle requires by displaying a symbol and/or number. These warnings correlate with a maintenance schedule as described in the owners manual. 2001 to 2006 model year MDXs should follow the 105,000 miles (168,000 km) or seven-year maintenance schedule suggested by American Honda Motor Company in the owners manual or as found below.
Replace the engine oil and filter every 3,750 miles (6,000 km) or six months. Inspect front and rear brakes every 7,500 miles (12,000 km) or six months. Assess pads and discs for wear, cracks and damage. Look over the calipers for secure mounting, leaks and damage.
Rotate, check inflation and inspect tires for damage every 7,500 miles (12,000 km). Follow the tire rotation pattern provided in the owners manual of your Acura MDX.
Inspect the tire-rod ends, steering gearbox, gearbox boots, suspension and driveshaft boots every 7,500 miles (12,000 km) or six months. Assess rack grease, steering linkage, fluid lines, bolt tightness and condition of these components during inspection.
Replace the air cleaner. Lubricate all hinges, locks and latches. Inspect the parking brake adjustment, brake hoses and lines, all fluid levels and condition, exhaust system, fuel lines, lights and controls, and vehicle underbody every 15,000 miles (24,000 km) or annually.
Replace the VTM-4 rear differential fluid during the first 7,500 miles (12,000 km) or six months, then again at 15,000 miles (12,000 km) or one year. Continue to replace the VTM-4 fluid every 15,000 miles (12,000 km) or annually.
Replace the timing belt and spark plugs every 105,000 miles (168,000 km) or seven years. During the same time inspect the water pump, valve clearance and idle speed.
