How to Change the Running Lightbulb in a Mazda 6

Changing the running light bulbs, or parking lights as they are sometimes called, can be done from the rear of the light. There is not a lot of room, but if you work carefully you can get it done without too much aggravation. The running lights are important, as they help drivers on the road see you in low-light conditions. The bulbs for these lights can be found at any auto parts store, the Mazda dealer or even some department stores.

Things You'll Need

  • Replacement bulb
  • Open the hood of your Mazda and locate the light assembly just inside the grill of the car. The parking lights, or running lights, are located behind a small black cover on the headlight assembly. The cover is rectangular and has a clip on top of it.

  • Depress the clip at the top of the cover and lean the cover in toward the engine. Lift the cover out of the car and set it aside.

  • Locate the light socket inside the hole where you removed the cover. It is a small black socket with two wires coming off it. Remove the socket by pulling it straight out. Wiggle it back and forth to free it up if it does not slide out easily.

  • Remove the bulb from the socket by pulling the bulb straight out. Install a replacement bulb by pushing it into the socket firmly enough to seat it.

  • Push the socket back in the housing and replace the cover. Set the cover in, bottom first, and then push the top forward until it locks into the headlight assembly. Test the lights by turning them on and verifying that they function properly.
