You don't always need another battery from an assisting vehicle to jump start the dead battery on your car, but you're going to need something to convince it to start. A jump starter pack comes in handy when you're all alone and no one is around to assist you. If you're at home and have a battery charger, you can also jump start your car using that.
Open the vehicle's hood.
Place the red clamp of the jump starter pack or battery charger onto the red cabled positive battery terminal. There will be a "+" insignia stamped on the battery housing to inform you it's the positive terminal.
Place the black clamp of the jump starter pack or battery charger onto the black cabled negative battery terminal. There will be a "-" insignia stamped on the battery housing to inform you it's the negative terminal.
Turn the jump starter pack power button on (if equipped with one) or plug the battery charger into the extension cord or electrical outlet. Make sure the battery charger is set on 12 volts, conventional battery (non-deep cell) and choose a high amp or "start" setting.
Make sure none of the clamp wires or electrical cord of the jump starter pack or battery charger are in the way of any moving engine parts. Start the vehicle.
Turn off the jump starter pack if equipped with a power button or unplug the battery charger from the extension cord or electrical outlet. Remove the black clamp first, then the red clamp while the vehicle is still running. The battery will need to be recharged by the alternator, so do not shut off the vehicle to remove the jump starter pack or battery charger. Allow the vehicle to run for a period of time before shutting it off.
